About Strathcona Montessori Preschool

In British Columbia, all-day programs are Licensed as daycare.  Children must be three years old when starting, with the exception of two children per group aged 30 to 35 months (if space is available).  Toilet training is a major learning process, and children progress at their own natural pace.  Initially, children do not need to be fully toilet trained but must be able to manage most aspects of toileting independently, and have a strong understanding of the process.  Accidents happen and help is always there when needed.  The teachers will guide the children through the process with the expectation that parents will support the same process at home.

All new children to this Facility will begin with a Gradual Entry during the first two weeks.  Gradual Entry starts at one hour the first day and builds up every day following.  Returning children may attend the entire class the first day.

Teaching staff are fully licensed Early Childhood Educators and certified Montessori instructors, and hold valid Community Childcare First Aid Certificates. Our program is strengthened through the many individual and diverse talents of our staff, along with valuable years of teaching practice.  Yoga, nature studies, creative arts and story telling are some of the projects and activities that occur on a regular basis.

Our All-Day Montessori Program operates for eleven months out of the year, September (day after Labour Day) through to July 31st.  We close in late December between Christmas and New Years for one week, for all statutory holidays and for the month of August. Hours are 8am to 5pm. Drop off is between 8am and 9am.  Pick-ups are between 4pm and 5pm.

As this is a small school, five day enrollment is offered only to second year students.  First year students are offered a choice of two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday) and three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).  Part-time enrollment for first year students guarantees a five day for every second year student in their pre-Kindergarten year.
